Claire had labs on Monday and things are improving...ever so slightly. Her kidney function went from .29 to .26 ....slowly headed in the right direction. The BK virus in her blood was also tested. Two weeks ago it was 17,000 and this past Monday is was down to 14,000. So again, down a bit and headed in the right direction. Everything else looks pretty good. Depending on one other level that she'll get tested for on Friday, she may or may not get the second dose of the antibiotic that is helping to get rid of the BK virus. They'll have to see the result of this other level first and decide from there.
True to Claire's fashion, she looks and feels great!!
I will eventually get the pictures downloaded!!
Benson and Claire were born with a rare genetic disease in which their liver produces too much oxalate--called primary hyperoxaluria. Claire's condition has progressed much faster than Benson's. She was on dialysis since she was 3 months old and for much of that time, did dialysis 3 hours a day, 6 days a week. She receive a much needed kidney / liver transplant on December 18, 2009. It is expected Benson will eventually need similar transplants.
