Benson and Claire were born with a rare genetic disease in which their liver produces too much oxalate--called primary hyperoxaluria. Claire's condition has progressed much faster than Benson's. She was on dialysis since she was 3 months old and for much of that time, did dialysis 3 hours a day, 6 days a week. She receive a much needed kidney / liver transplant on December 18, 2009. It is expected Benson will eventually need similar transplants.

weekend fun

Well, we had a busy/eventful weekend! On Friday, Claire received her antibiotic at the hospital and it only took 3 hours. Time flies when you're having fun and with veggie tales The Pirates who don't do anything, Claire, Benson and I had lots of fun. Benson asked why we don't have that movie at our house and I told him because we don't need it...we watch it every time we're at the hospital for more than 1 hour...and that is often enough!

Right after our hospital fun, we drove to Sioux Falls, South Dakota and are now the proud owners of a gray mini van. This purchase has been months in the making--researching what we really wanted and then trying to find that, at a good, used price, is no easy task. Thanks to Jared, it was doing very wisely and we are thrilled with our purchase. The kids love it and are so glad to be done looking at cars.

The final van-hunt-trip to SD was a 4 hour drive each way. We bribed the kids into going with us (and being good in the car) with an overnight stay at a hotel and an hour or two of swimming included. It worked like a charm.

"We're going out kids," "NOT to look at another van?" "Yep." "NOOOOOOOO....just buy one. They're all the same!! I DON'T WANT TO GO!!"

That conversation can finally be over, to all of our delight, and we can now happily drive along in our new (used) automobile!!

Back to the hospital tomorrow for more blood work.

I'm sooo happy to know you have found the right vehicle. Shopping cars is really not a fun thing to do even for adults - so I can sympathize with the kids.
Glad all is going so well with you, the baby, Claire & Benson, (and of course don't want to leave Daddy out of the picture - way to go shopping Jared!!!) So what is the due date we're looking at now? Makes me start getting anxious! Can't wait for another sweet "angel" to join the family!
Love to all! Grandma

That's great.

I remember the first van We purchased when Natalie was a little girl and we needed a van to transport the entire family. It can be hard work. But it certainly makes for a nice family vehcile.

Enjoy.
