Wow. This week has flown by! Claire's blood work from Monday looks great. Her kidney function is slowly getting closer to where it started, so we are happy it's headed in the right direction. Certainly another lesson in patience as we watch it slowly go down where it's supposed to be! The next test for the virus that's caused all this fun will be this coming Monday.
Other than that, there's really not a whole lot to report on. She is doing great. Benson loves school and is so excited to go each time. It's fun to have some one-on-one time with Claire...and a little catch up time for me to get some things done while he's gone...aka: make dinner. Claire has also started a joy school with some friends. She goes once a week for two hours and is loving it so far! I'm really grateful she has the opportunity to do this without mom and without brother. She is so used to having either myself or Benson with her wherever she goes...so this is a great experience for her to be on her own, with friends, in a fun, non-hospital setting!! She has had no problems with me leaving her and I think it really makes her feel like a big, grown-up girl to be able to have school, just like brother!
Benson and Claire were born with a rare genetic disease in which their liver produces too much oxalate--called primary hyperoxaluria. Claire's condition has progressed much faster than Benson's. She was on dialysis since she was 3 months old and for much of that time, did dialysis 3 hours a day, 6 days a week. She receive a much needed kidney / liver transplant on December 18, 2009. It is expected Benson will eventually need similar transplants.
