Benson and Claire were born with a rare genetic disease in which their liver produces too much oxalate--called primary hyperoxaluria. Claire's condition has progressed much faster than Benson's. She was on dialysis since she was 3 months old and for much of that time, did dialysis 3 hours a day, 6 days a week. She receive a much needed kidney / liver transplant on December 18, 2009. It is expected Benson will eventually need similar transplants.

"fun" friday

Well, we survived yet another 10-hour hospital day. Claire had a kidney biopsy today and everything went well. Other than the fact that we waited around most of the morning...but what would a hospital day be without a good 4 hour "wait" period. Claire was patient, although she did start to get hungry. As did I. I couldn't eat and drink in front of her, knowing she couldn't have anything in preparation for the biopsy...so we were both ready for some food when the time was right. She took a little nap after the biopsy (which is unusual for her), but was much happier when she woke up from that. I tried to snooze for a minute but kept flinching myself awake in the rocking chair before I fell out! Benson and Jared came over in the afternoon to keep us company and watch the Pirates who Don't Do Anything for the ?th time. Gotta love the hospital routine!!

Claire is feeling well tonight and was happy to be in her own bed. When asked what she was going to dream about tonight she replied, my biopsy...so I guess it wasn't too bad of an experience if she's still okay with dreaming about it. We don't have any results yet but will meet with the doctor next Thursday to see how things look. The reason this biopsy was done was to confirm that the BK virus is out of her kidney. So hopefully that's the result we get next week!

I pretty much feel huge and can't believe we only have 6 weeks left until this little baby will make it's arrival (maybe earlier if it follows Claire and Benson's pattern). Things are looking great though! Still have a bit I want to get done before the little one comes but we're slowly chipping away at the list of projects. Onward and upward!

Well we are pleased that you made it through another day at the hospital. Claire certainly is a trooper and should receive the metal of honor for her valor and stamana. Well when I think of it, you too should receive a metal for your valor and stamana.

Love ya all
