Benson and Claire were born with a rare genetic disease in which their liver produces too much oxalate--called primary hyperoxaluria. Claire's condition has progressed much faster than Benson's. She was on dialysis since she was 3 months old and for much of that time, did dialysis 3 hours a day, 6 days a week. She receive a much needed kidney / liver transplant on December 18, 2009. It is expected Benson will eventually need similar transplants.

Pre-Halloween Fun

Claire had some blood work and a dr. visit yesterday and things look good! Her kidney function is staying constant. A biopsy of her kidney is scheduled for next Thursday to see if the kidney is still rejecting and to check for the BK virus. So until then, we'll keep doing what we're doing and pray for the best!

I had a dr. apt. today and things are also looking good for me and the baby! I had an ultrasound today and the baby is on the small side, but not of concern. It weighs approximately 5 lbs. 4 oz as of today. So I'm thinking it will be in the 6 lb range by the time it's born. No dilation yet but the cervix is starting to thin out and efface. Officially 4 weeks left...maybe sooner! My back and stomach muscles are hoping for the "maybe sooner" part of that, but I guess we'll just take what the baby gives us! Regardless, it is SOON!!

Pre-Halloween FUN!

We had Claire's joy school Halloween party at our house this week! Claire felt like the odd-duck-out when everyone came with their darling princess, fairy, and angel costumes! So Benson came up with the remedy: a duck fairy! She had those wings on in no time!!

Benson was just happy to be in on the action and have a party!!

Today at Benson's school they had occupation dress-up day. Benson decided he was going to be a police officer when he grew up. He mostly just like carrying the handcuffs, flashlight, and pretend gun on his cool belt carrier!

Looks like they are all ready for Halloween. What a great holiday for children. (and for some adults.) I am dressing up as a court jester or joker myself.

Well Natalie you are definitely on the countdown for number 3. Good luck and take care.

And you all have a great Halloween.
