Benson and Claire were born with a rare genetic disease in which their liver produces too much oxalate--called primary hyperoxaluria. Claire's condition has progressed much faster than Benson's. She was on dialysis since she was 3 months old and for much of that time, did dialysis 3 hours a day, 6 days a week. She receive a much needed kidney / liver transplant on December 18, 2009. It is expected Benson will eventually need similar transplants.

He DID it!!

Benson graduated from preschool on Thursday! Silly, cute, fun, exciting for a 5 (and 3) year old! They had a short and sweet ceremony where the kids sang a couple songs, and then they got to walk across the stage to get their diploma! It was cute! Bring on the summer!

Today the kids were singing along with Micky and Goofy in the car, "If you're happy and you know it." They were both really into the song, clapping, stomping, and shouting "horraY" as LOUD as they could...and it made me think. They're not going to thinking singing "happy and you know it" with Micky and Goofy is fun or COOL forever. It seems like they will...but I'm sure some day they'll ask us to take that CD out and put in a COOLER one that doesn't have 'baby' songs on it. It reminded me of their innocence, playfulness, and youth-full wonder in the simple, happy things of life! I know it won't last forever...so I sure did enjoy listening to them belt it out today!!
