Benson and Claire were born with a rare genetic disease in which their liver produces too much oxalate--called primary hyperoxaluria. Claire's condition has progressed much faster than Benson's. She was on dialysis since she was 3 months old and for much of that time, did dialysis 3 hours a day, 6 days a week. She receive a much needed kidney / liver transplant on December 18, 2009. It is expected Benson will eventually need similar transplants.

tooth fairy fun

Now ya see it...

Now ya don't!

Benson had to get his front tooth pulled yesterday. He had an abscess (an infection filled bubble) on his gum which could cause a number of different problems; so the best solution was to get the tooth out. I'm pretty sure I was more nervous for him about getting it pulled than he was. But it ended up being no big deal. The dentist numbed the gum without any problems and then pulled it out as slick as pie. No tears, no fighting..."easy peasy," as Benson likes to say! Benson couldn't be happier about it. Some of his other friends have started to lose their teeth so he's thrilled that he fits right in with them now! He said he hopes he get's a "bubble" on his other teeth so he can get those pulled too. He can't wait to go to the dollar store to get a special toy (a.k.a. piece of plastic that will probably be broken, lost, or forgotten about by the end of the week) with his tooth fairy earnings too! I guess this means he's getting old! First tooth. GONE!
