Benson and Claire were born with a rare genetic disease in which their liver produces too much oxalate--called primary hyperoxaluria. Claire's condition has progressed much faster than Benson's. She was on dialysis since she was 3 months old and for much of that time, did dialysis 3 hours a day, 6 days a week. She receive a much needed kidney / liver transplant on December 18, 2009. It is expected Benson will eventually need similar transplants.

today

Success!

Things went really well today. The doctor was able to dilate her bile duct from 3mm to 8mm! From hardly budging a month ago to 5mm today...yes that is a success. And he felt good enough about how 'open' he was able to get it that he removed the drain bag. So she still has the bile tube coming out of her side, but at least it's not connected to an awkward bag. We'll keep our eye on her and make sure she doesn't get another infection from 'capping' off the bag as she did last time...but so far so good. She feels good. We feel good. And we'll do it again a month from now. They will keep dilating it every 4-6 weeks and stretch it a bit more each time until it's finally big enough to call it good. It won't be over and done with anytime soon, but patiently, it will work! Thanks for the prayers in Claire's behalf.

Grateful prayers to follow!!

And we were home before noon. A miracle in and of itself!!

Another miracle is right.

I am not sure if it's 17 miracles or not. But it is a miracle indeed. And we are glad. And we are blessed.

Have a great week.
