Benson and Claire were born with a rare genetic disease in which their liver produces too much oxalate--called primary hyperoxaluria. Claire's condition has progressed much faster than Benson's. She was on dialysis since she was 3 months old and for much of that time, did dialysis 3 hours a day, 6 days a week. She receive a much needed kidney / liver transplant on December 18, 2009. It is expected Benson will eventually need similar transplants.

day off

Today the kids had a day off from school.

"YES, Claire!! That means we'll have more time to play pharmacy!!! Right Claire, RIGHT?!!?"

"Right Benson!"

And so they did. Mabel made disasters, cruising around from this cupboard to that drawer....while they played pharmacy and did puzzles. Perfect. Remind me I have to go back to the pharmacy tomorrow morning because some more of my medicines will be ready for pick up. I've been informed that they're even opened on Saturdays! That's my kind of pharmacy!

Seriously. How likely is it that Benson and/or Claire will have an interest in the medical field when they grow up. Quite possible if you ask for my projection!

We all need days off once in a while.
