Benson and Claire were born with a rare genetic disease in which their liver produces too much oxalate--called primary hyperoxaluria. Claire's condition has progressed much faster than Benson's. She was on dialysis since she was 3 months old and for much of that time, did dialysis 3 hours a day, 6 days a week. She receive a much needed kidney / liver transplant on December 18, 2009. It is expected Benson will eventually need similar transplants.

Quick update....just to check in.

Claire's bile tube is capped off. The doctors want to see how it goes....hopefully infection free! So far so good. Nice to not have the bag hanging around (and/or leaking on the furniture).

Benson loves basketball at the Y. I think his favorite part is that his dad gets to help coach.

Mabel is becoming "one of them!" Only without discipline or a strong moral compass of what's acceptable and what's not. For example, she loves to play (and throw things) in the toilet; she also throws ANY and EVERYthing in the garbage and loves to go to an overflowing garbage when looking for a snack. That little stinker has already learned how to run away from us when she knows she did or has something she's not supposed to! LOVE HER! Absolutely LOVE Miss Mabel!!

Mabel's iron levels have come up and she is finally moving up on her growth chart.
