Benson and Claire were born with a rare genetic disease in which their liver produces too much oxalate--called primary hyperoxaluria. Claire's condition has progressed much faster than Benson's. She was on dialysis since she was 3 months old and for much of that time, did dialysis 3 hours a day, 6 days a week. She receive a much needed kidney / liver transplant on December 18, 2009. It is expected Benson will eventually need similar transplants.

Loves for Mabel

We thought they did a great job on the TV segment. Thanks Channel 6!

Have I mentioned how much I LOVE having a baby!! According to Benson, Mabel is the "Queen of the Babies" and the "Best Baby in the Whole Wide World." He uses those phrases over and over every day and I couldn't agree with him more!!! She has brought so much JOY to our family!

I use the term "job" a lot with my kids....like, "this is my job" "or "here's a good job for you to do," etc. So today Benson asked me what Mabel's job was. We decided it was her job to make us all happy! And she does just that!

She is really growing up way to fast...rolled over for the first time this week, started rice cereal (and LOVES it!), laughs like crazy, and is so alert and attentive. I saw a 3-week old the other day and realized how not-newborn Mabel was! But I can't be too sad about it because I have thoroughly enjoyed and cherished every minute of her almost-5-month-old life so far. Really! She's the best. I feel so lucky and blessed to have this precious little one part of our family!

We enjoyed watching your family on television. Your family is truly remarkable. And Mabel just makes it that much more remarkable. She is a doll and a beautiful baby.

So glad she came to live with you guys in Minnnisota.
