Benson and Claire were born with a rare genetic disease in which their liver produces too much oxalate--called primary hyperoxaluria. Claire's condition has progressed much faster than Benson's. She was on dialysis since she was 3 months old and for much of that time, did dialysis 3 hours a day, 6 days a week. She receive a much needed kidney / liver transplant on December 18, 2009. It is expected Benson will eventually need similar transplants.

Saturday April 2

Claire's labs and ultrasound on Thursday were the same as what they have been. Everything for the liver looks good in the ultrasound and the labs were basically the same as what they were on Monday--high. SOOOOO...I'm happy to hear they're just going to keep watching the labs instead of proceeding with a biopsy right away. That sounds good to me and they feel good about it as well. She feels good, although is still a little itchy--mostly at night when she has nothing else to do but lay in her bed and think about itching!! Slowly the scabs are healing over and she's looking better!

So glad to hear about Claire's Liver results! I hope you have been able to take a deep breath and a sigh of relief and relax a little...although, by the looks of the chicken, you've had your hands full!
