Benson and Claire were born with a rare genetic disease in which their liver produces too much oxalate--called primary hyperoxaluria. Claire's condition has progressed much faster than Benson's. She was on dialysis since she was 3 months old and for much of that time, did dialysis 3 hours a day, 6 days a week. She receive a much needed kidney / liver transplant on December 18, 2009. It is expected Benson will eventually need similar transplants.

TV fun
For all you Minnesotans out there...Channel 6 is doing a story about our family tonight at 5:00 pm! Sorry for the short notice. They just called this morning, came this afternoon, and we'll be on tonight!
The story is also supposed to be posted on their website kaaltv.com around 7:00 tonight.
We are the COTA family for the month of April, which is "Donate Life" month. Channel 6 found us through COTA.
Very cool. I sneaked a peek this morning on the kaaltv website. :) You guys are famous! The kids all looked darling and you and Jared made some nice comments. I am glad someone was willing to donate their organs to Claire. She is a special girl for sure.
Just watched the news clip...That is really neat that they brought to light really how important it is to be a donor. Your sweet family looked adorable and You looked absolutely beautiful!
