Benson and Claire were born with a rare genetic disease in which their liver produces too much oxalate--called primary hyperoxaluria. Claire's condition has progressed much faster than Benson's. She was on dialysis since she was 3 months old and for much of that time, did dialysis 3 hours a day, 6 days a week. She receive a much needed kidney / liver transplant on December 18, 2009. It is expected Benson will eventually need similar transplants.

weekend fun

We took the kids (after months of begging) to House of Bounce on Friday. Jared had the day off because of the Easter weekend, so we took advantage of the long weekend. Claire looked like this for the first 20 minutes...and cried in the first 'bounce' house.

But eventually warmed up and had a blast the rest of the time! Benson loved every minute of it and showed Claire all the tricks of the trade!

Claire's labs from Thursday look pretty good. Her liver numbers are down but are still not normal. They are at least headed in the right direction, so the doctor is okay with just testing them once a month and make sure they keep heading down. She feels great and kidney function is perfect too!
