Benson and Claire were born with a rare genetic disease in which their liver produces too much oxalate--called primary hyperoxaluria. Claire's condition has progressed much faster than Benson's. She was on dialysis since she was 3 months old and for much of that time, did dialysis 3 hours a day, 6 days a week. She receive a much needed kidney / liver transplant on December 18, 2009. It is expected Benson will eventually need similar transplants.

almost Spring

Well today we enjoyed a little ice, water, and sun!

(But no call from Mayo. Hum. What kind of test were they running to have it take this long...beats me?!? We'll hear from them when we do!)

The kids have enjoyed home school ice skating on Tuesdays for the past few weeks. Benson used the "walker" to help him balance the first time he went, but caught on quick and is off and on his own now! He loves playing tag with his friends, Isaac, Chase, and Malana. Claire still likes the comfort of the walker but also likes to push it ahead of herself and skate a bit on her own to catch up with it. Fun to get out and do something different, especially something the kids really enjoy! And it almost seems a bit patriotic to Minnesota to get involved in such a cold sport!! Not the best pictures...it's not easy to get good ones while skating myself and trying to help Claire, but you get the idea!

On the way home from ice skating my van said it was 66 degrees! SO EXCITING!! Hence the river of water running through our backyard. The kids went from ice fishing last week to going down the river in a boat today! They loved every minute of it and were a sopping disaster when they came in! Mabel enjoyed the show watching from the windows out back.

And then came the fun in the sun. We pulled the bikes out of the shed and they wanted a rag and squirt bottle to clean them up. So fun to at least have one warm day (even if it's not here to last) to get us excited for Spring!! I loved having some fresh air in the house too. What a great day!
