Benson and Claire were born with a rare genetic disease in which their liver produces too much oxalate--called primary hyperoxaluria. Claire's condition has progressed much faster than Benson's. She was on dialysis since she was 3 months old and for much of that time, did dialysis 3 hours a day, 6 days a week. She receive a much needed kidney / liver transplant on December 18, 2009. It is expected Benson will eventually need similar transplants.

biopsy day

The day went much better than I expected it to today! Hooray! Claire was amazingly understanding with the "no eating" thing. In fact, not ONCE did she ask for food or say she was hungry. If you could hear her on a normal morning (as of the last two weeks, at least) first thing out of her mouth is "CAN WE EAT!!" That was a blessing. Thanks for the prayers. Claire never ceases to amaze me with her understanding and compliance.

She did great for the biopsy. She still HATES going to sleep with the mask and probably always will. But it's quick and she's out before she knows it. Sad to watch, though. She had a friend come to visit her after the procedure and that brightened her afternoon A LOT! She loved the bundle of Easter toys her friend picked out especially for Claire. Then she rested for the rest of the afternoon watching movies. It usually takes her a good 5 hours or so before she feels good enough to get up and walk around...which ended up being right about the time she was given the green flag to go home!

The doctor will call tomorrow with the results from the biopsy and we'll get a plan from there. Glad to be home. Ready to do nothing.

Eating a sandwich, watching Barney (again), crossing the legs, loving her blanket, hating the IV, passing time!

Soo glad to hear that Claire did well. She is one remarkable young little girl. And yes we love her.

Our prayers are with you for the best biopsy results that she can get.
