Benson and Claire were born with a rare genetic disease in which their liver produces too much oxalate--called primary hyperoxaluria. Claire's condition has progressed much faster than Benson's. She was on dialysis since she was 3 months old and for much of that time, did dialysis 3 hours a day, 6 days a week. She receive a much needed kidney / liver transplant on December 18, 2009. It is expected Benson will eventually need similar transplants.

Monday

Well, well, well. What have we been up to? EveryONE is healthy! Yeah.

Benson's activities could be summed up in two words: puzzles and chess. Jared taught him how to play over the weekend and he is obsessed with it! He loves it. I played him today. I've probably played chess about as many times as he has, and HE WON! I wasn't even playing "nice" and apparently he wasn't either! Pretty fun to learn something new.

Claire's actives could also be summed up in two words: food and babies. She honestly can't go an hour without saying, "Eat!! I'm hungry." She is seriously hungry ALL the time. It's great and all, but seriously, we're going to have to higher our food budget. If one of them is eating, the other two aren't too far behind saying, I WANT SOME TOO! Good thing this medicine (which is causing the increased appetite) isn't a forever thing or we'd be in trouble! And she also can't go anywhere without baby Annie or baby Thomas. Benson compliments her all the time on what a good job she's doing, being a "real" mom. And she is. Pretty much a pro. Mabel is learning every step of the way too.

Mabel activities in two words: Shoes and outside. She has LOVED being outside the past week and is having a hard time coming back in when outside time is done. I see the inklings of a tantrum with her broken heart of having to come back inside. And she is also loving walking around in other people's shoes. Even if the shoe doesn't fit...WEAR it!

Everyone needs a little down time. Especially me.

It is good to hear that things are at least leveling out.

And I have to agree with Mabel, with Spring here it is great to be outside.
