Benson and Claire were born with a rare genetic disease in which their liver produces too much oxalate--called primary hyperoxaluria. Claire's condition has progressed much faster than Benson's. She was on dialysis since she was 3 months old and for much of that time, did dialysis 3 hours a day, 6 days a week. She receive a much needed kidney / liver transplant on December 18, 2009. It is expected Benson will eventually need similar transplants.

enjoyed...

On Friday we enjoyed a beautiful spring scene from the 16th floor of the Mayo building...before the (not so pretty) scene from inside the blood work room. I love Mayo Clinic. I am so happy to be here. Claire is getting used to doing blood work all over again. This is only her second time without her pic line. It's been since November since she's been poked...and she HATES it all over again. It will take some time for her to get used to doing blood work in her arm again. Until then, the scene is not so pretty!

On Saturday, we THOROUGHLY enjoyed watching Claire in her ballet recital! It was one of the cutest things we have ever witnessed--TWELVE girls, ages 4 and under, dancing their little hearts out for 15 minutes straight! Makes a mommy happy to see my little princess loving ballet as much as I did.

On Sunday we enjoyed church, spring flowers, and a cool afternoon walk.

And then there will be tomorrow. I'm already preparing myself for a mini-disaster with Claire at the hospital. She's going to be hungry...starving...can I even say FAMISHED before the biopsy (which is scheduled for 8...meaning we'll be happy if she gets in before noon). Praying for understanding on her part, patience on my part, and I'll even wish for a perfect procedure on the doctor's part! Hopefully they will get more answers after tomorrow's biopsy and determine the best way to treat the rejecting liver.

Our prayers are with you. We pray that Claire will be able to go through her procedure tomorrow with flying colors.

We also pray that the doctors will be blessed with insight and wisdom that will benefit Claire.
