Benson and Claire were born with a rare genetic disease in which their liver produces too much oxalate--called primary hyperoxaluria. Claire's condition has progressed much faster than Benson's. She was on dialysis since she was 3 months old and for much of that time, did dialysis 3 hours a day, 6 days a week. She receive a much needed kidney / liver transplant on December 18, 2009. It is expected Benson will eventually need similar transplants.

Day 60

Today was a day that tested my patience. Without going into detail, let me just say this: when that which is supposed to take one hour takes two and a half, I just want to go HOME already!

Claire was a lot more patient than I. I guess that's why we're supposed to become as a child, "submissive, meek, humble, patient, full of love, and willing to submit..." I just felt bad that her day consisted of waking up, going to the hospital (3 hrs. dialysis), coming home, taking a nap, waking up, going back to the hospital (2 1/2 hrs. antibiotics), coming home, and going back to sleep....just to wake up and go to the hospital with Dad in the a.m. Good thing it's Dad's turn tomorrow! I'm ready for a weekend!

All is well. Still smiling!

Mesmerized by a pinwheel!
