Benson and Claire were born with a rare genetic disease in which their liver produces too much oxalate--called primary hyperoxaluria. Claire's condition has progressed much faster than Benson's. She was on dialysis since she was 3 months old and for much of that time, did dialysis 3 hours a day, 6 days a week. She receive a much needed kidney / liver transplant on December 18, 2009. It is expected Benson will eventually need similar transplants.

Day 73

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

Can't say thank you enough to everyone who has touched our lives and blessed our family this past year. We are overwhelmed and humbled by the generosity, love, and service that has been extended to our family. I love this holiday.

What a memorable thanksgiving we had today! Dad and Claire went dialysis while Benson watched TV and I made rolls, Dinner (scrumptious as expected), rubber-band army war (ya just had to be there...girls vs. boys...we smoked 'em), Hokey-pokey and the chicken dance (till we were all panting for breath), a Thanksgiving program with the cutest thanksgiving story and memorized poem, a Thanksgiving tree we got to fill in with our thankful leaves, Pie (of course), and Apples to Apples while the kids watched UP! Seriously, what more could you ask for?! Thanks to our great friends who made this thanksgiving absolutely WONDERFUL!

I'm so glad you had a lovely Thanksgiving - your family so deserves it. I found your blog through FatQuarterShop and have been mesmerised by Claire's story all afternoon. She - and your dear little boy, and you and your husband - will be in my prayers every day. I am in awe at the incredible strength and good spirit you possess and hope that Claire receives her transplant asap and that your beautiful and abundant love continues to heal her.

You don't know me, but I've been life long friends with Tasha Bradshaw. I'm sooo glad that you get to be her friend and you hers. I've been sooo touched with claire and Benson's story. My first daughter has been through so many things similar and it brings back so many memories to watch things like your little video clip over to the side. It's really so amazing all the things learned when trials are fought with a smile. My favorite thing in the world is that a little child can make these things seem so normal and so part of day to day life--oh, the faith of a child! I pray for your family! I know you and your family are in our Heavenly Father's hands just by the feeling I get when I read about you!
