Benson and Claire were born with a rare genetic disease in which their liver produces too much oxalate--called primary hyperoxaluria. Claire's condition has progressed much faster than Benson's. She was on dialysis since she was 3 months old and for much of that time, did dialysis 3 hours a day, 6 days a week. She receive a much needed kidney / liver transplant on December 18, 2009. It is expected Benson will eventually need similar transplants.

1. Benson ran a race tonight (just shy of a mile) and placed 4th in his age! He loved it....and it was good for him to see that other kids can be faster than him.....and that's okay!! He was a good sport and I think it will encourage him to keep practicing so maybe next year he'll be even faster!! (It was a race for home school kids and there was about 80 kids running!) He also won one of the raffle tickets at the end and got 4 free games of bowling! He just couldn't believe that he won one of the prizes!!! An ice cream twist from McDonalds for the 4th place winner made his smile even bigger!

1. Too bad we went from a happy 4-year old birthday / wild-camping girl to a sick, miserable princess. Oh man. Little Claire is not well. She wasn't feeling well Sunday morning and ended up getting a fever as the day went on. Jared and I were on the verge or taking her to the ED but after chatting with the doctor over the phone, we decided to ride it out through the night. She seemed to be getting better as the day went on today and her fever even did go away by early afternoon (without the help of Tylenol). But now she's smokin' hot again and miserable! She doesn't have any other symptoms. Benson had a fever Saturday night but it went away with one dose of Motrin and was great by Sunday morning. We're thinking it's just a virus that the both of them caught.....and she would of course take longer to get over it than Benson did. HOPEFULLY in the morning she's feeling better!! If not we'll most likely take her in to get other things checked out. Shoot.
