Benson and Claire were born with a rare genetic disease in which their liver produces too much oxalate--called primary hyperoxaluria. Claire's condition has progressed much faster than Benson's. She was on dialysis since she was 3 months old and for much of that time, did dialysis 3 hours a day, 6 days a week. She receive a much needed kidney / liver transplant on December 18, 2009. It is expected Benson will eventually need similar transplants.

She's better!

Oh good!! But not without a long morning at the hospital. I did take her in to her Pediatrician because her fever came back last night and this morning, after we had thought it went away! She was still very miserable in the morning, so I called her doctor to see what they thought. After having her checked out there, they couldn't put their finger on what exactly was going on, but with Claire's history/background, he thought we better be safe and do some blood work/cultures. So we did. Claire started to feel better by the afternoon and was COMPLETELY back to normal by the end of the day! Hooray! The nurse called this afternoon and said everything that has come back so far is normal. Blood and urine cultures are still pending.

Time to great ready for Benson's BIG day tomorrow!! Busy 2 weeks!
