Benson and Claire were born with a rare genetic disease in which their liver produces too much oxalate--called primary hyperoxaluria. Claire's condition has progressed much faster than Benson's. She was on dialysis since she was 3 months old and for much of that time, did dialysis 3 hours a day, 6 days a week. She receive a much needed kidney / liver transplant on December 18, 2009. It is expected Benson will eventually need similar transplants.

Benson's birthday party

Saturday September Seventeenth.

It was a chilly morning but the kids warmed up fast with the party line-up we had planned!

We played a little kickball

Soccer

Isn't this a great picture?!

Baseball

and patiently (or not so much) waited for the rocket to launch!

How fun it was to celebrate the birthday boy with friends!!

I wish I would have had a camera going during the present opening. The excitement was electric! I think at least one of the boys told Benson what the present was before he even got it opened...(usually a different boy than the one whom the present was from) and then another one would chime in and YELL to tell us "I HAVE THAT!" THIS IS HOW IT WORKS and WHAT IT DOES and HOW COOL IT IS and and and!! I even heard one of the boys YELL QUIET!! It's too NOISEY!! It was quite funny. SO exciting to be SIX!

Let's just be honest, though. I'm glad the birthdays are over! It's a lot of work to have FUN!
