Benson and Claire were born with a rare genetic disease in which their liver produces too much oxalate--called primary hyperoxaluria. Claire's condition has progressed much faster than Benson's. She was on dialysis since she was 3 months old and for much of that time, did dialysis 3 hours a day, 6 days a week. She receive a much needed kidney / liver transplant on December 18, 2009. It is expected Benson will eventually need similar transplants.

Random nuggets

A few nuggets of thoughts-

* As I drove alone in the car tonight (an occurrence which happens next to never) I realized I'm getting old! After searching for talk radio and not finding what I wanted, I settled on a classical station and enjoyed every minute of my drive in peace. A sure sign of age.

* Claire completed another 12 hour urine collection yesterday (along with baby Annie) and did blood work too. It was a success and everything looks great! Everyone is always happy when those 12 hours are done with. Especially because there's a promise of a tea party in the morning with a successful collection!

* I burnt a hole in the bottom of my bowl that was filled whole-wheat waffle mix. I turned on the wrong burner and was distracted feeding hungry Mabel in her highchair. And then I smelt the smell of burn plastic and shorty noticed the smoke in the kitchen. I can't decide if I'm more disappointed about the bowl or the lack of yummy waffles I was looking forward to for the next 3 days.

* Benson is preparing a speech for his public speaking class this Friday. He gets to give a short (2-5 minute) speech on ANYTHING he wants to! We brainstormed fun ideas he could talk about....from 4-wheelers to fun vacation spots, monster trucks to dinosaurs and guess what he decided to do it on. BONES. The bones in our bodies. How many are in our hands and legs. The smallest bone. The largest bone. The number of bones in each finger. And for the finale, he wants to share Claire's bone-breaking stories. The visual: her casts--purple and candy-cane stripes! Full report to come on Friday.

* Every day after Jared is done with work I ask him how his day was. For those who don't know, his work involves the stock market, ForEx market, etc. Sometimes (as it was today) his response is something like, "oh it was pretty boring," or "it was really slow," or "there wasn't much going on," or "had a lot of down time," or....you get the point. I wish one of my days could end with a response like that!!

* Our living room is officially YELLOW. We all LOVE it! Jared commented that he will probably always have a yellow room in his house. I agree. So bright. So cheery. So happy.

these 3 love each other.
