Benson and Claire were born with a rare genetic disease in which their liver produces too much oxalate--called primary hyperoxaluria. Claire's condition has progressed much faster than Benson's. She was on dialysis since she was 3 months old and for much of that time, did dialysis 3 hours a day, 6 days a week. She receive a much needed kidney / liver transplant on December 18, 2009. It is expected Benson will eventually need similar transplants.

quick update

* Claire's diarrhea is completely gone!! Hooray for all involved!

* Labs looked better from Tuesday, but I didn't hear back from the liver team about those numbers from Thursday's blood work. I guess that means there's nothing worse to worry about. Probably hear more next week.

* Yesterday Mabel started saying "Dad" much to Jared's delight. It is so darn cute!! I forgot how cute those first two words are...."mom" "dad" (in that order) ((it's okay for me to boast, Benson and Claire both said "dad" first so I'm glad sweet Mabel broke the trend, yet again!))

* We all survived our first family camp out of 2011! It was so great, other than the rain. The kids obviously didn't mind one bit, it just limited our activity plans. Mabel got the *best-all-around-baby-camper* award, Benson got the *best-bike-rider-in-the-mud-award* Claire got the *wettest-pants-AND-most-uses-on-the-froggie-port-a-potty-award* Jared got the *best-breakfast-cooker* award, and I got the *best-night's-sleep* award. Our friends we went with also received some special honors: Madilyn got the *I-want-MILK* award and Abigale got the *more-rain-mud-dirt-rocks-the-better* award, Jared R. got the *most-uses-with-a-hammer* award, and Catherine got the *best-supporting-child-actress* award. Fun times, good memories, great friends! I didn't take many pictures because of the rain, but here are a few I got when it was dry.
