Benson and Claire were born with a rare genetic disease in which their liver produces too much oxalate--called primary hyperoxaluria. Claire's condition has progressed much faster than Benson's. She was on dialysis since she was 3 months old and for much of that time, did dialysis 3 hours a day, 6 days a week. She receive a much needed kidney / liver transplant on December 18, 2009. It is expected Benson will eventually need similar transplants.

365 days

OLD...and counting

This little girl had a fabulous day! She LOVED destroying her birthday cake. Piece by piece, handful by tiny handful, she threw every single last drop of it onto the ground! Her face was the cleanest part of her body...but her hands made up the difference! She was serious. She was intent. She had a mission. And she didn't smile till it was complete!!

A job well done! Who's on clean-up duty?!

Look at that cute hat from Aunt Shannon and Uncle Ryan!

She LOVED getting a baby of her very own! So fun to have family to celebrate with us...but missing Dad and Big Sister at the same time. No one ever said you could only have one party, though!! Happy Birthday sweet Mabel. You are a blessing to us ALL in so many different ways. We're so glad you joined our family a year ago TODAY!

Me and my birthday princess.
