Benson and Claire were born with a rare genetic disease in which their liver produces too much oxalate--called primary hyperoxaluria. Claire's condition has progressed much faster than Benson's. She was on dialysis since she was 3 months old and for much of that time, did dialysis 3 hours a day, 6 days a week. She receive a much needed kidney / liver transplant on December 18, 2009. It is expected Benson will eventually need similar transplants.

the day of rest

Well today really was a relaxing Sunday. In fact, there's next to nothing to report about medically...so that's a good thing. The bleeding through the drain tube stopped so our concerns are relieved about the internal bleeding. Claire and I played in the playroom for about 3 hours today with babies, the doll house, chalk, paint, and doctor stuff. We took another stroll around the hospital and went up to hospital library. The rest of the family joined us for dinner. Three busy kiddos in a hospital room can get to be a bit MUCH in a short amount of time, but it's nice to all be together for at least a few hours.

The best part of the day for Claire was the 64 pictures of rainbow and unicorns that she got from friends who love her! She had a BIG smile on her face as we looked at each one of them (over and over again) and read who they were from. What a bright, fun room she has to look at with fun pictures all over! THANKS to those who brightened Claire's day today in a simple, sweet way!

Hoping for some answers tomorrow and a dismissal summary would be even better. We'll see what the week brings.
