Benson and Claire were born with a rare genetic disease in which their liver produces too much oxalate--called primary hyperoxaluria. Claire's condition has progressed much faster than Benson's. She was on dialysis since she was 3 months old and for much of that time, did dialysis 3 hours a day, 6 days a week. She receive a much needed kidney / liver transplant on December 18, 2009. It is expected Benson will eventually need similar transplants.

home again

Yeah! Claire gets to go home today. The surgeons/doctors still haven't decided upon a final decision, but we can get the info at home just as easily as we can sitting here. She'll probably go in for a clinic visit with the surgeon sometime this week after they hopefully come up with a long-term plan.

Claire is ready to be home. She's board and she feels great!

We'll come back once a day for her to get the IV antibiotic for the infection. The drain tube with the bag will come along with us as well. No more wild/crazy time for this little one....that might be a trick.

Glad you are home. Glad Claire is bored at the hospital. We don't want her liking it too much. So that she wants to stay long term.

Hope to see you this weekend.
