I read a new book to Claire today at the hospital and the squirrel in the book was feeling a bit GLUM. I like that word. I can relate to Mr. Squirrel.
Claire is back in the hospital. This whole day has been miserable for her in every way.
She got a fever while we were at Mayo today. We were there from 9:15 - 2 and I supposed in some ways it's a good thing we were there so long because at her first apt. she wasn't feverish...and by the time we got to the end of it...she was. She was miserable. She only wanted to lay on the couch and even fell asleep while I was talking to the doctor. That's saying something right there. And after she woke up, she went back to sleep.
She has a yellowish tint to her skin because there's a build up of bilirubin in her body (from the liver). They decided to put the drain bag back onto her drain line so the bile would drain out of her body instead of going through her bowel. This should help with the yellowish tint. She's still a little itchy and in pain from the drain line. Having the bag back on should help with the itchiness as well.
She got poked by a needle SEVEN times today. She's traumatized. She's mad. She's exhausted from crying and being hurt.
One for blood work at 10. THREE for blood work at noon. THREE more this evening at the hospital to try to get an IV line started. When I left at 8:00 they still hadn't gotten it.
She says she just wants to go to sleep. She's simply physically and emotionally fatigued.
Not 100% sure what the plan is from here. They expect that the fever is indicating that she has some infection in the liver/bile duct from all that's been going on this week. I know they're planning on starting IV antibiotics tonight and they're going to put her to sleep tomorrow to check out 'something' with the drain tube. They're going to put in a PIC line tomorrow while she's asleep. We'll see what tomorrow brings.
She needs some prayers for tonight.
Mabel's apt. went well. Things look like they will heal up just fine. She will start some "whirlpool" therapy tomorrow for her little hand. She hasn't been in any pain. She must have learned from her sister how to be a tough little angel.
And for the icing on the non-existiant birthday cake..."Happy Birthday Jared!"
