Benson and Claire were born with a rare genetic disease in which their liver produces too much oxalate--called primary hyperoxaluria. Claire's condition has progressed much faster than Benson's. She was on dialysis since she was 3 months old and for much of that time, did dialysis 3 hours a day, 6 days a week. She receive a much needed kidney / liver transplant on December 18, 2009. It is expected Benson will eventually need similar transplants.

Giving Thanks

We've had a fabulous thanksgiving weekend. Our feast, as Benson called it, was perfect. Everything tasted so good! The highlight for the kids was playing pin the tail on the turkey...which will become a new thanksgiving tradition for us. We certainly have much to be grateful for this year. We made a list of things we were grateful for this year...among which included our new van, warm house, our country, the love sac, reading books, kidney and livers, food to eat, glasses and hats, baby Mabel, food to eat, and summer time.

Mabel had her first Black Friday shopping experience. Jared and I couldn't pass up $1.99 30-pack batteries, a propane heater, half-off bike for Benson, $9.99 baby set and fishing pole for Claire, etc. etc. It wouldn't have taken half a day if the lines wouldn't have been so long! But I suppose that's the fun (or pain) of it all. Mabel was hidden away in her stroller the entire time and slept the morning away. We were pleased with our purchases and grateful to have Grandma here to keep Benson and Claire occupied at home.

It's been such a great, relaxing, long weekend. I've loved taking it easy and simply enjoying my family!

Mabel looks so small. We are so used to thinking of Claire as the baby. It is great to see her in a new role as the big older sister.

We are thankful as are you.

Right now we are thankful for the internet. Such a great blessing to be able to see the pictures and ready the words even while we are vacationing in Mexico.
