Benson and Claire were born with a rare genetic disease in which their liver produces too much oxalate--called primary hyperoxaluria. Claire's condition has progressed much faster than Benson's. She was on dialysis since she was 3 months old and for much of that time, did dialysis 3 hours a day, 6 days a week. She receive a much needed kidney / liver transplant on December 18, 2009. It is expected Benson will eventually need similar transplants.

good friday

Good news from the dr. offices today. Claire's kidney has nearly no sign of rejection!! There was one small trace of inflammation, but overall, the doctor was pleasantly surprised and optimistic about it's condition. And no sign of the BK virus either! Happy news for sure. We will continue to watch it closely with blood tests, probably weekly for a little while, but nothing else major needs to be done as of now. What a blessing.

Especially as we anticipate the arrival of our baby...which is imminent. At my doctor's appointment today I was dilated to a 2 and 50% effaced. The doctor thinks it will most likely occur within a week or two...but really it could happen any time now. So this weekend is--finish up all the projects that have been looming around the house--weekend. And pack our hospital bags. And get a game plan for D day in case baby "kicks out" (that's how the kids like to term it) before Jared's mom arrives.

Exciting news today for all!

That is such great news! I meant to call you all week to see if you needed anything...and the week got away from me. Even if this coming week is not crazy busy for you, let me take the kids for a little bit. And make us part of the game plan for D day-- we can be on call, even at night!
