Benson and Claire were born with a rare genetic disease in which their liver produces too much oxalate--called primary hyperoxaluria. Claire's condition has progressed much faster than Benson's. She was on dialysis since she was 3 months old and for much of that time, did dialysis 3 hours a day, 6 days a week. She receive a much needed kidney / liver transplant on December 18, 2009. It is expected Benson will eventually need similar transplants.

November 24 is here!

November 24 has been on my mind since March 30. It's Mabel's official due date! So glad our little Turkey that's been baking in the oven for the past 9 months is here, home, and feeling good! Although that extra hunger and no-guilt-eating I had while pregnant would have come in handy on a day like tomorrow.

And just on a random note, I was totally convinced Mabel was a boy. I was only SLIGHTLY miserable while pregnant with Benson; NOT miserable in the slightest while pregnant with Claire; and what at times seemed BEYOND miserable while pregnant with Mabel...so it had to be a boy, right?!?! I thought so. Ironically, the only time during my pregnancy that I thought it could be a girl was the first time I saw Mabel at my 10 week ultrasound. It was a simple, quick ultrasound at my first appointment with the doctor that they do just to determine exactly how far along I am and set an official due date. It was nothing more than the profile picture I saw of her...but the thought/feeling I had at that time was "look at that cute little girl!" And I couldn't be happier that my first instinct was right--even though I didn't believe it myself until she was placed on my chest. For hours (and probably even a day or two) after she was born, I was still saying to Jared, "I can't believe it's a girl!!" Not that I was disappointed...just that I was thoroughly surprised and thrilled to have another princess!!! She is absolutely perfect for our family. She is exactly what Heavenly Father wanted us to have. She'll go down in our books as the best surprise of 2010!

Claire had blood work yesterday and things are still looking great!

Benson and Claire love making sure Mabel feels right at home with friends her own size.
Left to Right: Baby Thomas, Baby Benson, Mabel, Baby Annie, Baby Kate, no-name-baby, and Dora.

She had a good time. Too bad her face isn't as dirty as her hands. Still a step in the right direction!
