The wagon ride that was supposed to be fun.
Benson and Claire were born with a rare genetic disease in which their liver produces too much oxalate--called primary hyperoxaluria. Claire's condition has progressed much faster than Benson's. She was on dialysis since she was 3 months old and for much of that time, did dialysis 3 hours a day, 6 days a week. She receive a much needed kidney / liver transplant on December 18, 2009. It is expected Benson will eventually need similar transplants.

Oct 10 p.m.
Today was not an easy day. She hardly blinked her eyes--not just didn't sleep, but literally didn't blink her eyes; never acknowledged anyone (including Mom, Dad, or Brother) when we walked in the room, she looks straight forward and has a very glazed look in her eyes, she doesn't want to be touched by anyone in anyway, and has maybe only said two words. It's just not Claire. The meds they've had her on were so strong and they are still in her system. And for her, it will take longer than normal to get them out. You and I have working kidneys to filter the waste/toxins from our bodies. She doesn't. The only thing she has is 3 hours of dialysis. So she gets 3 hours/day of waste filtering, where as we have a 24/7 filtering system. It's so hard to see her like this. Today was definitely worse than yesterday. I hope the drugs filter out soon. I want my little girl back...really back. To see her possessed/overtaken with something she has no control over is one of the hardest things we've had to go through.

(We met at Tori's house the other week for a minute).
What a rough day indeed. It breaks my heart to hear about her not even acknowledging anybody when they come in the room & not wanting to be touched. POOR GIRL -- & POOR YOU! It definitely doesn't look like the wagon ride went over like it was supposed to. That's soo sad! I will be praying for the meds to filter out quickly AND for the clot in her leg to go away SOON AND for her (AND YOU) to get some much needed sleep!!
I can only imagine how frustrating it must be to have her go through MORE hurt & pain because of somebody's mistake. . . especially since that's what caused this whole thing in the first place (as you said.) I'll admit I'd probably be pretty bitter if I were in your shoes. You guys are doing so amazing! Hang in there... she'll "come" back soon!
We're still praying for you guys...and we don't plan on ever stopping!!! We love you!
I will pray with all my heart. Stay strong. She will get through this too. What a poor little princess.
Natalie, my heart aches for you and for Claire. I just wish she could have her transplants and you guys could go home and have normal lives! I will be praying for you.
Our hearts are aching for you. We will be fasting and praying for Claire tomorrow. As always your strength is a great example to me, hang in there. Love you guys.
Umm . . . I think you and Jared win "Parents of the Year" award. Your sacrifices continue to come with no complaint, anything for your little one. You're amazing examples. We will pray for no blood clot and SLEEP. You guys can do it, Natalie. Prayer does work. Heavenly Father and Jesus both know your suffering. They're there with you, lending their Spirit to comfort and sustain you. We love you.
Our hearts are aching reading about sweet little Claire and all the complications! Eric and I just want to let you know that you have constantly been in our thoughts and prayers and fast as well today. And today the Bishop mentioned your family from the pulpit and asked the ward to remember Claire in their prayers and their fast today as well. so, you have a lot of prayers coming your way!! We can't even imagine how difficult it must be for you to see Claire this way. We hope to see some updates soon of Claire back to her smiley self!
Hi sweety,
