Benson and Claire were born with a rare genetic disease in which their liver produces too much oxalate--called primary hyperoxaluria. Claire's condition has progressed much faster than Benson's. She was on dialysis since she was 3 months old and for much of that time, did dialysis 3 hours a day, 6 days a week. She receive a much needed kidney / liver transplant on December 18, 2009. It is expected Benson will eventually need similar transplants.

Day 82

Highlights of our saturDAY:

Claire is basically running around the house now with her candy-cane cast and is scaring us half-to-death while she's at it! She's already wearing down the sole (aka rug gripper) we glued on the bottom and we're going to have to put something else there to keep her from slipping on the hardwood floors. Nothing really stops this girl from living the life she wants to live!

Benson and Dad went sledding with the centimeter of snow still in the backyard.

I made homemade pizza tonight and the crust was seriously 2 inches high. I think I'll use a little less dough next time or stuff it with cheese to make it worth the height.

Claire has made up a new name that covers both Mom and Dad. Madie. "I don't care if it's mom or dad, just someone listen!"

Jared got his basement project finished and cleaned up today. He repainted the main room downstairs and his office. Next Friday comes the new carpet....then we can finally get our basement put back together again. Yeah!

Good day all around!

What a darling little dynamo you have there in Claire!
The fabric stores sell gripper fabric like you find on the soles of baby's sleepers that might come in handy for the bottom of the cast.
Keeping your family in my prayers.
