Benson and Claire were born with a rare genetic disease in which their liver produces too much oxalate--called primary hyperoxaluria. Claire's condition has progressed much faster than Benson's. She was on dialysis since she was 3 months old and for much of that time, did dialysis 3 hours a day, 6 days a week. She receive a much needed kidney / liver transplant on December 18, 2009. It is expected Benson will eventually need similar transplants.

Day 84

What a fun night we had! Jared and I experienced a "first." It was our first time watching our child perform in a Christmas program! We loved seeing Benson, a little shy, but smiling ear to ear during the program. He sang most of words to the Christmas songs and was thrilled to be the focus of the evening!

Sitting in his classroom before the show began.

4-year old Christmas programs would bring a smile to anybody's face! It certainly did to ours. It was definitely one of those 'proud parent' moments!

Claire had a fun day today too. She was full of life and energy on dialysis. 3 hrs went by like a flash! I love those kind of days. Jared also fixed up the sole of her cast so it's more stable for her to walk on. Good thing for dad's who love to do that kind of stuff!
