Benson and Claire were born with a rare genetic disease in which their liver produces too much oxalate--called primary hyperoxaluria. Claire's condition has progressed much faster than Benson's. She was on dialysis since she was 3 months old and for much of that time, did dialysis 3 hours a day, 6 days a week. She receive a much needed kidney / liver transplant on December 18, 2009. It is expected Benson will eventually need similar transplants.

Day 92

Tomorrow is a big day. Claire get's a 10 PELD point jump on the transplant list!! They told us her current score of 23 was really good. So the jump to 33 points that will go into effect tomorrow must be REALLY good. The higher the score, the better chances Claire has of getting called for the transplant. It makes me nervous. I have butterflies in my tummy just writing about it. But I know it's got to come. I want it to come. But when it does come, I know I'll have that feeling of "wait wait...I'm not ready for this huge change!!" But it will be good. Claire needs it and she's ready! I'm grateful our transplant coordinator and doctors have petitioned to have Claire's score increased. There's still no guarantee as to when it will come. Hopefully soon! And so we continue to wait!

We had a great day today. Dialysis went well with both the kids together. Tomorrow we'll do a few labs before dialysis and Friday she gets to have her leg cast come off! Yeah!! No more candy cane! Although it is the cutest, littlest cast we've ever seen...it will be nice to have it gone! And her collar bone.....you wouldn't even know it was broken by the way she acts. She hardly shows any signs of discomfort. She moves, grooves, jumps, climbs, dances, and plays Rosies like a champ! She really is one tough girl. AND here's a first: today when we gave her the heparin (lovenox) shots in her legs, she didn't cry at all. Two shots. No tears. Benson was even shocked: "MOM she didn't even CRY!! GOOD JOB CLAIRE!" Either Jared's getting really good at poking softly, Benson and I are amazing hand-holders, or Clarie's simply getting tougher! We could make us all feel good and say it's all three, but I think it's the latter!

We took a quick trip to WalMart this afternoon and Claire found a cozy spot to play. She could have stayed there for hours (in 2-year-old time, of course...so like 2-3 minutes max). She loves babies. Even the ones that aren't hers.
