Benson and Claire were born with a rare genetic disease in which their liver produces too much oxalate--called primary hyperoxaluria. Claire's condition has progressed much faster than Benson's. She was on dialysis since she was 3 months old and for much of that time, did dialysis 3 hours a day, 6 days a week. She receive a much needed kidney / liver transplant on December 18, 2009. It is expected Benson will eventually need similar transplants.

Things are so much better tonight! We only had to use the temporary catheter once today. The second time, they were walking through the door to put another permanent catheter in and as my Aunt would say, they scared the pee right out of her!! She avoided yet another catheter two hours later and went potty right after we had called to have the nurses come put it in! SO I guess all we have to do is make a phone call to the catheter team or have the nurses walk through the door....and she'll let it loose! Hopefully it continues that way tonight and throughout the day tomorrow.

She is much happier tonight. The all dones are starting to slow down. Right now she's laughing and playing with dad and talking up a storm! Lookin' good.

I got to go out to dinner tonight with Mom, Grandma, and Benson. Sometime you just have to get out of the hospital to keep your sanity! No wonder Claire is just itching to get out of here! We are so excited about the improvements today. Hopefully she sleeps like a champ.
