Benson got a letter yesterday from Santa telling him that Santa was going to go to deliver his presents to our home when Claire gets home from the hospital. He was very understanding about that. We all wanted Claire to be able to enjoy Christmas with our family at home. But Santa did make it to the hospital this morning! Claire is not at the age yet of liking Santa yet so she wasn't so thrilled with his arrival. Benson was excited and got some special toys just for him. He is just too smart. After Santa left Benson said, "That's not the real Santa, Mom. He's just a man dressed up as Santa. And that lady was dressed up like an elf too...that's silly. The real Santa is at the mall." We've also had some special deliveries from our dialysis nurses. They miss Claire's joyful presence in the dialysis unit! We'll miss them too but are grateful we won't have to be seeing them every day any more. Just for fun visits now!
Claire is continuing to progress. The only bump in the road today is getting her to pee! She needs to have a wet diaper every 2 hours. Her kidney is making urine great, but she's just having a hard time releasing it after having a catheter in there for so long. She did go a few times on her own but has also needed a temporary catheter four different times to get the urine out when she wouldn't go. She started getting really sore from taking the catheter in and out so this last time we decided to put another permanent one in for a little while. We'll see tomorrow again about taking it out and hope she'll go on her own!
Other than that, everything is fabulous. She is still not 100% "there" yet but is getting closer. She's actually liked her wagon ride today and didn't want to come back in her room. I'm sure her not wanting to come back into her room is just going to get worse and worse every day. "All done" is still her phrase! She had the best night she's had last night so that makes life easier for all!
Merry Christmas to all!
