We just met the family whoes daughter received the other half of the liver that Clarie got. What a sweet connection we will have with that family. Both our daughters, her's 2 1/2 and Claire just over 2, will always have something in common. Their little girl has been waiting for a liver for over a year now and her health was declining. How happy we are that the liver was able to used for both our princesses!!
The surgery is over. They were closing up her tummy about an hour ago and she'll be in the recovery room for about an hour....so hopefully we'll see her soon! As far as we've heard, everything went well. What joy and peace we feel. There will still be bumps on the road to recovery but at least the big surgery is over!!
Benson and Claire were born with a rare genetic disease in which their liver produces too much oxalate--called primary hyperoxaluria. Claire's condition has progressed much faster than Benson's. She was on dialysis since she was 3 months old and for much of that time, did dialysis 3 hours a day, 6 days a week. She receive a much needed kidney / liver transplant on December 18, 2009. It is expected Benson will eventually need similar transplants.
