Benson and Claire were born with a rare genetic disease in which their liver produces too much oxalate--called primary hyperoxaluria. Claire's condition has progressed much faster than Benson's. She was on dialysis since she was 3 months old and for much of that time, did dialysis 3 hours a day, 6 days a week. She receive a much needed kidney / liver transplant on December 18, 2009. It is expected Benson will eventually need similar transplants.

Day 83

I'm pretty sure Sunday is our favorite day of the week. Everyone is healthy and ready for another week. I just keep thinking that the transplant call has got to come soon! Maybe if I stop expecting it so much it will come! And then when I start thinking really hard about it, I get very hesitant and nervous and am okay with the phone not ringing for a while longer. We'll never be 100% ready for it. We still have to try to live a "normal" life until everything changes.
