Benson and Claire were born with a rare genetic disease in which their liver produces too much oxalate--called primary hyperoxaluria. Claire's condition has progressed much faster than Benson's. She was on dialysis since she was 3 months old and for much of that time, did dialysis 3 hours a day, 6 days a week. She receive a much needed kidney / liver transplant on December 18, 2009. It is expected Benson will eventually need similar transplants.

Day 90

We had a fun Christmas party tonight with some friends. We decorated the softest, yummiest gingerbread cookies I've ever tasted and sang Christmas songs. The kids had reindeer antlers, Santa hats, Christmas bells, and kazoos to add to the melody! What a great Christmas memory.

Claire felt great today. She is really getting around! She seems to be feeling less pain in her shoulder today and is (for better or worse) much more active today than yesterday. We had a great time in Church and Benson even got to say the opening prayer in Primary. Another great Sunday!

Wow. It's been 90 days. 90 days since Claire was listed active on the kidney / liver transplant list. Crazy.
